More than Tsh. 36 bilion loaned out by university students from 2006 to 2018 in Zanzibar have paid back to the Zanzibar Higher Education Loans Board (ZHELB).
The payments include Tsh. 7.8 bn as a debt inherited by ZHELB between 2006 and 2010 for Zanzibar students loaned from the so called Zanzibar Higher Education Fund.
According to the statement from the board, until October 2019, more than Tsh 6 billion have been collected from 2735 graduates whereby among them, 429 have fully completed to pay their loans while 2306 are continuing to pay their loans.
ZHELB, in a statement, has urged sponsors and employers to make sure their employees are paying their loans to the board as directed by the law.
